Being able to enjoy the soft sway of bamboos, the rhythm of water sprouts and feeling the surfaces of natural materials, is a simple pleasure known to the discerning. One experiences such balmy, down-to-earth delight in this house, though the design has been anything but simple.

A 3-storey corner-terrace, it is saved from its 10 years of dingy windows, classical balustrades and under-utilized spaces. A sleek modern-resort theme now permeates the newly enlarged spaces. Hacking all unnecessary elements, using careful alignments and consistency for the new windows and doors, its façade is instantaneously updated. Being on a high terrain, the house offers a sense of anticipation when one walks up the side-lit granite steps. The main door is an unusual stretch of timber and glass-laced folding panels and a pleasant view of interiors unfold when you enter. Amidst the large wash of a quiet-toned marble floor, a plush velvety sofa contrasts with raw yellow travertine slabs lining the living room’s wall, a free-form table with its beautiful grains perched on a raised dining area beyond and an island counter demarcating it from a dry kitchen. The end in view at the powder room is a silver travertine-clad wall, leading to a wet kitchen.

Coupled with en-suite bath, the 4 bedrooms upstairs are luxuriously styled in the same theme with a background of dark timber flooring. Designed with a slightly more asian touch, the master bedroom is decked with woven fiber-wallpaper, dark silk, rich embossed fabric and bamboo laminates.

Resort-theme has really been given a new meaning in this house. Apart from the usual suspects of natural greens and timber furnishings, it is designed with modernity and luxury in mind.
